Disaster Relief

Ohio Residents and businesses in federal disaster area counties - Allen, Crawford, Hancock, Putnam, Richland and Wyandot are granted an extension to October 15, 2007 to file and pay Ohio taxes.  The deadline extension to October 15 applies to any Ohio tax payment, report or return due between August 20 and September 30, 2007.  Interest is not waived.  Individuals and businesses who qualify for the extension do not have to file any special form.   They may simply write or type, in bold letters, "Disaster Relief" across the top of a payment check, return or report at the time it is filed.  If the Department of Taxation inadvertently issues a bill, taxpayers should write "Disaster Relief" in bold letters across the top of the bill and return the billing.  RIA Note: The IRS had already postponed deadlines falling on or after August 18, 2007, and on or before November 15, 2007, to November 15, 2007 - see Ohio Admin. Code 5703-7-05(B)(2). (Flood Stricken Counties-Additional Time, 08/31/2007.)
